Job story-6.8.png

Eddie started working with Compass in March of 2018. He was one of the first clients in our FCS program. We initially spent a lot of our time working through the process of discovery skill assessments, as Eddie was seeking his first real job. “I tried looking for a job on my own, but it didn’t go very well," he said.

Once we had identified Eddie’s skills and gifts, we put together a resume based on his experience at Kelso High School, where he volunteered as a janitorial helper. One of his teachers, offered a glowing letter of recommendation. Thanks to this recommendation we were able to use it in Eddie’s job search, as well. During this time, we brainstormed ideas about where he might want to work and began targeting employers and working on Eddie’s presentation and interview skills.

Eddie put these skills to good use in a few interviews before we met with TJ at AM PM in Kelso. They brought Eddie in for an interview after our initial meeting and offered him a job soon after. Eddie has been working weekends as the lot attendant at AM PM since August of 2019. Everyone at the store likes having Eddie around, and Eddie enjoys the job. “I have good and bad days, but mostly good”, he said, adding “I’m glad Compass was there to help me find a job, my first paid job."
