Meaningful Employment found in a Competitive Community

Arthur moved to Spokane, Washington from Illinois in 2018 to live and support his cherished grandmother. Arthur lives in assisted living and was connected with Compass Career Solutions to be part of our Foundational Community Supports (FCS) Employment Services.  Arthur has been actively engaged in the FCS program to gain meaningful and sustainable employment. When meeting with our FCS team, Arthur discussed he was interested in doing systematic activities working with his hands, such as stocking or working in a warehouse. He hoped that through the increased income he could live more independently and help his grandmother pay her bills.

Through the assistance of his FCS Employment Specialist, Ricky, Arthur recently completed hiring paperwork to work at the Amazon Warehouse as a Fulfillment Associate in Spokane! Although finding employment has been a difficult journey in a competitive community, Arthur kept a positive attitude throughout the process of benefits planning, job searching, meeting potential employers, and interviews. In a conversation with Ricky, Arthur said, “You know, my Grandma said she would give me $100 if I stay at this job for a month. I told her that would be easy! I’m planning to stay for a long time, to work hard, and to hopefully get promoted!”

Arthur’s journey has not been easy, but with great determination and support from Compass, he is now competitively employed and working towards a long-term career.
