Community Inclusion Services Support Cameron to Thrive
Cameron is an incredible young man with an amazing sense of curiosity.
Cameron’s outings for Community Inclusion started out small. He would go to different parks in the city and participate in walking groups. Cameron had a look in his eyes that he wanted to participate more in the community, so we did some more discovery and learned that he loves music!
Although everyone said Cameron loves 80s and 90s music and rap, we learned he loves country music even more! We took him to The Iron Horse Bar & Grill to hear the band Theresa Edwards and the Bobs. It was all country cover music and Cameron was all smiles! Since that first outing, Cameron has been going to The Iron Horse to hear music on a weekly basis.. Occasionally, his mom joins him and they have a great time.
As a result of his increased time in the community, as well as work with Applied Behavioral Analysis professionals, Cameron is significantly improving his verbal communication skills and ability to self-advocate. He has also developed friendships with a few of the regulars at The Iron Horse, including Kori, a server who always talks to Cameron and asks him what he wants to drink (even though it is always the same: club soda with lime).
Cameron’s growth has been awesome to watch. Even his house staff is stunned with how outgoing he is, compared to nine months ago. Cameron has also agreed to go on other excursions, from walking groups on trails to Christmas light displays. And he is always quick to proudly tell people his name: "Cameron!"
