How did you find Compass (or how did they find you)?

I discovered Compass when I requested a transfer of service providers because my previous provider was not meeting my housing needs. Tammy Stewart and Marion LaCroix from the DSHS team referred me to Compass, where I was assigned my housing specialist, Davin Peredo.

How has Compass helped you in your Permanent Housing Placement journey?

Since working with Compass, everything has improved significantly for me. My housing specialist ensures that all my housing needs and financial matters are handled professionally and in a timely manner, so I never have to wonder if the assistance I request is being addressed. He has helped me regain trust in others and feel supported, something I had not experienced with previous providers.

What was the biggest help and the biggest hurdle in your life before being placed in a home?

My biggest hurdle was myself. Having spent six years incarcerated, I struggled to trust people again and navigate the justice and housing systems. The greatest personal challenges I faced were losing my children — one to suicide and the other to an accidental death. The most meaningful support I received was gaining my own place. Focusing on setting up my home and keeping it organized has helped me honor my children’s memory, motivating me to stay on track and make them proud as if they were still here to witness my progress.
