A new job he loves

When I first came to Compass through the Washington Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR), I knew I wanted to work but didn’t really know where to start. I didn’t have any work experience, and that made me nervous. The team at Compass helped me figure out what I’m good at and what kind of job would be a good fit for me. They worked with me to build a resume that showed my skills and strengths, even though I hadn’t had a job before.

I told them that I wanted to work in a store doing stocking or merchandising, and that my favorite store in Cowlitz County is Grocery Outlet. Compass helped me go into Grocery Outlet and meet the owner, Mike. He agreed to interview me, and Compass was there to support me during the interview.

At the end of the interview, Mike offered me a job as a merchandiser! I was so excited to say yes and start working. I began my first day later that same week, and Compass worked with DVR to make sure I had a job coach with me for support.

I’m really thankful for all the help I’ve received from Compass. My job coach has been great, and I love my job. I’m proud of myself for taking this step and excited about what’s next for me!   - Jacob Palmer
