PattyJo - Olympia Story

compass supported me and helped me find a home

What is your name, and how did you find Compass (or how did they find you)?

My name is PattyJo and I discovered Compass when I was referred to them during my hospital discharge planning. At that time, we were exploring providers who could continue supporting me after my inpatient treatment, particularly with my housing search and retention needs.

How has Compass helped you in your Permanent Housing Placement journey?

Compass was immediately able to help me find housing and ensure I had everything I needed to get settled before being discharged. While adjusting to my new environment, they continued, and still continue, to support me in turning my apartment into a home that I look forward to and feel comfortable in. I am now more engaged with my neighbors and community, and I continue to make positive progress in my life moving forward.

What was the biggest help and the biggest hurdle in your life before being placed in a home?

My biggest challenge was the lack of a local support system, as my children and family live far away and were busy managing their own responsibilities. While I was in the hospital, I truly had no one to rely on besides the hospital staff, my Compass Housing and GOSH team. They provided invaluable support in numerous ways, helping me navigate a difficult time that I could not have managed on my own. Thanks to their assistance, I was able to secure housing immediately upon discharge and begin rebuilding my life.
